It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Mauritius, the dream destination. You have come here from many parts of the world to participate in the first International Conference on Digitalization and Sustainable Tourism which we are organizing on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our independence. We are delighted that you have been able to find time to be with us on this very important occasion and we trust that you will spend a few days after the Conference to explore and experience this wonderful place which is a beacon of peace, security and inter-communal harmony.
We intend this Conference to be informative, innovative and inspiring for everyone. The expert panel that we have been able to bring together will contribute towards charting a new road map for the tourism of the future. I am confident that we will benefit from the interactive sessions and the discussions that we will have at various levels. This Conference is a unique opportunity for networking and for paving the way for a more profitable tourism industry in our respective countries.
There is nothing that can match person to person exchanges and sharing of experiences. I hope that you will optimize every opportunity to advance the cause of tourism which is an industry which holds so much promise for the world.
Tourism in the years to come will face multi-faceted challenges and it is our responsibility to ensure that the industry remains sustainable, inclusive and complies with the Sustainable Development Goals.
It is our wish that we adopt a declaration at the end of our work. This declaration will be the roadmap for the tourism industry to cope with digitalization in a sustainable way. Tourism for all is our goal.
I wish you all a very pleasant stay in Mauritius and a successful outcome of the conference.
